See and hear Jose Maria Condemi answer following questions here.

1. We are quite fortunate, here in Cincinnati, to see 'Ainadamar.' After all, the opera was composed only in 2003 with some revisions. What does the title mean?

2. The opera calls mostly for three female roles, a Flamenco singer and female chorus. The use of a female voice to portray the young has some familiarity in the classical opera canon. We remember Cherubino from Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro and Octavian from Strauss' Der Rosenkavalier. Here too, Osvaldo Golijov reached for a dark mezzo-soprano voice of Kelley O'Connor to portray the young Federico García Lorca. Perhaps here end the similarities with a classical opera. How would you describe the form of 'Ainadamar?'

3. In a recent interview, Osvaldo Golijov reflected on the polarization of people in the world today. How do you view the message of 'Ainadamar'? What was your vision? What were you trying to convey?

4. Some contemporary works of music are viewed as difficult for audiences to grasp. This is not the case with 'Ainadamar'. What would you like for the Cincinnati audiences to take home?

5. What's next in your professional plans? When can we expect you back in Cincinnati?
