BBC 3's Thursday, March 19 Opera Matinee featured two of the operas which make up Puccini's Il Trittico performed by San Francisco Opera. A dark tale of murder in Il Tabarro, and religious redemption in Suor Angelica. Mezzo-soprano Catherine Cook is featured in both. You can stream the performances here.

Elizabeth Bishop sang two performances of the title role in Iphigenie En Tauride at the Metropolitan Opera on Februrary 16 and 21, replacing Susan Graham who was ill.

Roy Cornelius Smith stepped in to replace Marcello Giordani for three performances as Dick Johnson in La Fanciulla del West with Lyric Opera of Chicago earlier this month. Mr. Giordani was called back to Italy due to a family illness. In his role debut, Mr. Smith received three cheering standing ovations.

Dr. Billy Taylor, a beloved fixture on the Barrett roster since 1977, died on December 28. We will miss him dearly. Our thoughts go out to the family.

Maryland's Annapolis Symphony Orchestra has released Three Symphonic Centuries, its first CD, under Music Director José-Luis Novo. The recording commemorates the 300th anniversary of Annapolis's Royal Charter and emerged from the ASO's three-year project commemorating the charter giving the city of Annapolis the right to govern itself.
