A Superb EUGENE ONEGIN At Livermore Valley Opera

"As Tatiana, soprano Antonina Chehovska was sensational! What a voice! It’s bright, it’s warm, and it’s radiant! Chehovska’s 'Letter scene' was a thing of utmost beauty! I hung on every word she sang."

EUGENE ONEGIN - Livermore Valley Opera

"Tatiana is performed by Antonina Chehovska, who shimmers vocally and transitions convincingly from the naïve, rustic ingenue to the noble’s wife. Rising to the occasion, she delivers the 13 minute letter scene soliloquy in which she pours her heart out to Onegin on paper, with total command and conviction."

"Soprano Antonina Chehovska gave a radiant performance in the role of Tatiana. Her conflicting fears and passions during the letter scene were truly a thing of beauty; this could be heard not just by her gorgeous, torn vocal climaxes, but the expressions which lit or darkened the open book of Chehovska’s face. After the extended applause Chehovska received for her ardent rendition... She entered for her closing scene with a poised yet heavy bearing, a front which held long enough to be dispelled powerfully with a sonorous cry. While she resisted Onegin for much of their exchange, one moment of surrender saw Chehovska in Feulien’s armbrace, her head nuzzled into his chest as she delivered a gorgeous sustained tone. Just as the two are kneeling together, seeming to be on the verge of infidelity, Chehovska broke away with a strong vocal leap, coming back to her senses long enough to walk out for good."

"The lengthy 'letter scene' which followed was so magnificently sung and acted by Ms. Chehovska that we realized the universality of youthful impetuosity. Ms. Chehovska went through a panoply of emotions and colored her voice to suit.... We have heard her sing in Russian, Ukrainian, Czech, Italian, and French--all with the same attention to depth of interpretation, and vocal artistry.... We have heard the 'letter scene' a few times over the past few years and she just keeps getting deeper into the character."

GEORGE LONDON FOUNDATION AWARDS COMPETITION – Grand Prize Winner

“Of the 23 finalists … Ukrainian-born soprano Antonina Chehovska, 29, whose heartfelt ‘Letter Scene’ from Tchaikovsky’s ‘Eugene Onegin’ made her an audience favorite and mine.”

James R. Oestreich, The New York Times
RECITAL – International Vocal Arts Institute, New York City

“Soprano Antonina Chehovska … used her generous instrument and finely tuned dramatic sense to portray a reckless young woman and a wise and experienced aristocrat. Her Tatiana in Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin was filled with passion and trepidation; she employed facial and body gesture along with word coloring and dynamic variety to make this long scene seem brief. Later, she distinguished herself with her regal and generous bearing as the Marschallin in Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier.”
