Unabashedly Hungarian, Kodaly’s Serenade is a work for three instruments that the Chamber Music Society musicians made sound like even more. The 20-minute work was a bewitching conversation between Kavafian and Neubauer, sounding like a wife and husband chatting and bantering with each other about this and that with the subtle nuance and exhaustive detail of an old, married couple revisiting earlier conversations, finishing each other's sentences, and talking over, around and past each other, to the delight and amusement of nearby listeners.”
