Vocalist - Bass
Biography

"Stealing the evening, was Christian Zaremba as Passagallo, the dancing master. Zaremba already stood out this summer, vocally and dramatically, as Collatinus, the husband in the stark, tragic ‘The Rape of Lucretia’… Zaremba has the comedian’s gift of playing his role absolutely seriously, and he sings well to boot. I found myself wishing Wolf Trap would make Passagallo a recurring character, like Borat, appearing on the sidelines of every future opera performance with earnest suggestions and an occasional pirouette." So quote the Washington Post of his performance in L’Opera Seria with Wolf Trap Opera. Of his performances, the New York Times has called him “a stage animal with a big bass voice.”

In the 2017-18 season, Christian Zaremba debuts with the Metropolitan Opera as Angelotti in Tosca, Austin Opera as Zuniga in Carmen, and with Michigan Opera Theatre as Sparafucile in Rigoletto. Mr. Zaremba’s engagements in the 2016-17 season included performing Master Fal in the U.S. premiere of Milhaud’s La mère coupable with On Site Opera, and Colline in La bohème with Opera Omaha and for his Portland Opera debut. He also appeared as soloist in Portland Opera’s “Big Night” opera gala, joined their production of David Lang’s The Difficulty of Crossing a Field and The Little Match Girl Passion, as well as the Metropolitan Opera's production of La traviata

His engagements in the 2015-16 season included performances as Jake Wallace in La fanciulla del West with Opera Omaha, and Commendatore in Don Giovanni with New York’s Venture Opera. In the summer of 2015, Mr. Zaremba performed the roles of Il Re in Aida and Bartolo in Le nozze de Figaro with Wolf Trap Opera.

As a resident artist with Minnesota Opera, Mr. Zaremba’s performances included General Tracy in the world premiere of The Manchurian Candidate, Sarastro and Sprecher in Die Zauberflöte, Ashby in La fanciulla del West, Zuniga in Carmen, Count Lamoral in Arabella, and The Lawyer in Dream of Valentino.

Mr. Zaremba’s recent opera performances also include David Lang’s The Little Match Girl Passion with Glimmerglass Opera, Don Basilio in Il barbiere di Siviglia with Long Island Opera, and Pistola in Falstaff for the Martina Arroyo Foundation.

As a concert soloist, Christian Zaremba has performed Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s St. John Passion with Annapolis Chorale, Mozart’s Requiem with St. Cloud Orchestra, and repertoire of Henry Purcell with Metamorphoses Orchestra.
