Vocalist - Baritone, Symphony Pops
The dynamic American baritone Stephen Powell brings his "rich, lyric baritone, commanding presence, and thoughtful musicianship" (Wall Street Journal) to a wide range of music, from Monteverdi and Handel through Verdi and Puccini to Sondheim and John Adams. Opera magazine has hailed him, writing "the big news was Stephen Powell's gorgeously-sung Onegin: rock solid, with creamy legato from top to bottom and dynamics smoothly tapered but never exaggerated."

"Both soloists performed without scores, which gave their singing an immediacy and sense of connection with the audience... Powell’s voice, always well-produced, has grown richer in the last few years, and he brought a richness of interpretation to the score as well."

"I never thought I'd find myself wanting to review a recording of Orff's Carmina Burana, but this one with the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra caught my ear and is so superb—so lively, accurate, cleanly recorded, and handsomely played—that its action-movie, apocalyptic aspects are matched by its introspective moments."
